Features of LVM3 M2/OneWeb India-1 mission:
The M3 in the name of the mission denotes the second operational launch of the Mark 3 launch vehicle (LVM 3 or GSLV Mk3).
- It is LVM3’s first mission to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). These satellites will be placed 601 kilometers above the earth’s surface.
- It is the first commercial mission with a payload mass of 5,796 kg which is one of the highest for ISRO.
- It is the first multi-satellite mission.
What ISRO says?
Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s chairman Dr. Somnath has denoted this event as “historic event.” The organization has 36 OneWeb satellites on the LVM3 rocket which are set to be placed in orbit.
ISRO says on its website that the LVM3 will make its swift entry into the global commercial launch services market. The organization shared that 36 different satellites will be placed one by one into the LVM3 orbit.
ISRO stated that the OneWeb constellation operates in LEO polar orbit. It has 40 satellites in every single orbital plane with a total of 12 such planes.
ISRO and OneWeb:
The contract between NSIL and OneWeb is a major milestone. The NSIL or NewSpace India Limited is the commercial arm of ISRO. OneWeb is the space-based global communications network with India’s Bharti Enterprises as a major investor. Its focus is to enable connectivity between businesses, communities, and governments.
